Please see the message below that was shared with Ricky DeGrafenreid's chapter, COMTO Maryland. Mr. DeGrafenreid passed on Sunday, October 30, 2016. His family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Dear COMTO-Maryland Family,
With great sadness, we inform you of the passing of Mr. Ricky DeGrafenreid. Mr. DeGrafenreid suffered a stroke last week and with his family and loved ones by his side, he passed away last night. Mr. DeGrafenreid served as First Vice President of COMTO-Maryland under our Immediate Past President, Adrienne Barnes.
Mr. DeGrafenreid was the Deputy Administrator of Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel and Fort McHenry Tunnel. Recently, he served as the Acting Administrator of MDTA’s Bay Bridge in an interim capacity.
Ricky joined MDTA in July 2014 after serving seven years with the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) in various positions including Acting Chief Operations Officer. Prior to MTA, Ricky was Assistant General Manager, Paratransit Division, with Veolia Transportation. Mr. DeGrafenreid brought his experience and expertise in operations management to MDTA just in time to see it through a successful summer travel season at the Bay Bridge.
Mr. DeGrafenreid’s willingness to help and his positive contributions are just a couple of characteristics that we remember of him. His smile, laughter, wit, and spirit made each visit or conversation with him a treasure and a genuine joy! Just as he touched so many of his colleagues at MDTA, he touched the lives of many of his COMTO-Maryland family. Ricky will truly be missed!
Please keep Ricky’s family, friends, and coworkers in your prayers. We will share Ricky’s arrangements as soon as they are available.
